Septo Webseries: A Totally Normal Regional Lesbian Love Story

By: Victoria Hoff

In a times of Netflix and Youtube, it’s difficult to find someone who doesn’t watch some sort of television series. Unfortunately, it’s very hard to find a series with Lesbians and which is also a brazilian production. Fortunately, the webserie Septo mixes both.

Septo is about a young girl, whose life is controlled by her father. One day the main character faints into the sea and another women, Lua, rescues her. The webseries is set with Natal as the background for the series and it’s great to see the regionalism of the area. The setting is totally different from Rio or São Paulo, where many of the most popular Brazilian T.V. shows are set. Another amazing aspect of the show is the non-conventional beauty pattern of the characters presented. The girls are not white with straight blond hair, and they have a strong accents from the northeast. Among the Brazilian regions, Northern Brazil has the lowest percentage of non-heterosexuals (2%). All other regions had percentages at or above 10%, with the Center-West reporting the highest (14%). Besides that, the states of Bahia and Ceará are the 3th and 4th that has more LGBT homicides.

Women who have a relationship with another women have difficulties in finding movies or series that represent themselves in a real way, without deaths or something totally normal. And that is something showed on this series; pure, non- spectaculous, like just every type love.

In total, there are 5 episodes, with 8 minutes each. Watch through this link.
