We have three in our house, if that’s any sign as to the fandom that follows these see-through beauties.

Editor’s Note: This piece is part of our month-long celebration of #NationalMasturbationMonth! See here for a primer on the history of the celebration and why we at The Sex-Positive Blog believe it’s important to undo the stigma and shame surrounding self-pleasure.

Iused to be very wary of glass toys. Before I owned any or had a chance to play with one, I was convinced I might drop, chip, and/or break them. Imagining them chipping or breaking inside of me — felt like a hard limit.

Recently while perusing the items on sale at a local sex shop I came across a selection of glass dildos at a reduced price. The store owner showed them off to me. I was shown and ultimately convinced that glass dildos are sturdy, durable, and versatile — and so I bought one!

  • Glass is easy to clean and sterilize — soap and water are all that is necessary after using. To sterilize them, all you need to do is boil your glass.
  • They are safe to share
  • Waterproof

Most glass dildos are made from a Pyrex-type, tempered glass which is known for its durability. Usually these are heated under extreme temperatures to strengthen the glass even further.

One of the most unique and interesting aspects of glass play is the temperature component. They can be chilled in the freezer or warmed for temperature play.

Some are ribbed with dots or spirals; some are curved; some are thinner; some are smooth — pyrex is a versatile medium, and as of the last five or ten years, sex toy artisans and manufacturers have begun to make use of its range, meaning they come in a plethora of shapes and sizes.

They come in a plethora of shapes and sizes.

A glass dildo was actually the first way I made my girlfriend squirt, so they definitely have the ability to hit the spot. She’s taken to liking the first one below, while I’m a big fan of the second.

Her fav: the Gläs Callisto

My fav: the Adam & Eve Twisted Pleasure

Price

I honestly can’t remember the exact price I paid for the Gläs Callisto, but I believe it cost around $20 (on sale). I was willing to pay more for the Adam & Eve Twisted Pleasure (since by then I knew how much we loved the first glass ‘do) so I think I paid about $50 for that one (not on sale).

I don’t have to worry about these toys deteriorating because glass is a durable and nonporous material. In fact, I feel like they are a very good investment given how much use they get. These toys rank high in value!

Shape and Texture

Although I find the straight, textured feel of the Gläs Callisto enjoyable, it can’t compare to the climax I receive due to the curvature of the A&E Twisted Pleasure. On the other hand, my girlfriend prefers the intense texturized mix of swirls and dotted ribbing that the Gläs Callisto offers. The range and styles of glass dildos vary widely, as previously mentioned, which means there’s surely one to fit every taste.

Other Remarks

Handling-wise, I personally prefer the larger handle of the Twisted Pleasure. I find the Gläs Callisto handle to be a bit small, making it easier for me to lose my grip. Additionally, the handle on the Twisted Pleasure can also double as an anal toy.

The point is

I love the variety and versatility to be found in glass dildos. If you’re in the mood for good penetration, male or female, these can be a fun way to love yourself or others! I’d give these a five out of five in the best way possible for ease, price, fun, and giving me what I want.
