There’s a Good Chance You Have One of These Common Fetishes

Just like many sexual lifestyles that could be labeled as “alternative”, fetishes are divisive: most adults either totally reject the idea of them or are generally open-minded to them. Defined as something that incites an abnormal degree of sexual excitement, fetishes can be nearly anything, from feet to fursuits to urine.

While a fetish can be an awkward thing to confess to a new partner, most fetishes are harmless and can be quite fun to play with. Fetishes are so common that there’s a good chance YOU have a fetish, even if you’re not aware of it yet. Read this list and find out if any of these weird but common fetishes applies to you.

Sex and Fetishes

Parts Of The Body: Feet, Boobs, Balls, Etc.

The most common fetishes, by far, are parts of the body. While just about anyone can appreciate an attractive person, people with the following fetishes will take that attraction to the extreme.

  • Feet are a very common fetish, especially amongst men. You can feed this fetish by sucking on toes to tearing stockings, or foot massages. Some men and women also like being penetrated by their partner’s feet.
  • Boobs and Butts can be fetishes too as if they don’t get enough appreciation already. At what point does “attraction” become “fetish”? When someone strongly prefers (or even NEEDS) a certain type of breast or butt to get into the mood.
  • Balls get love too, from fetishists who just love the fondling, licking, or sucking.
  • Amputee fetishes (acrotomophilia) are also common, but with this one, it’s important not to value someone just for their different-ness.

Dressing Up: Shoes, Furries, And More

Another common type of fetish involves dress. Ever wonder who buys those outrageously high-heeled leather boots, male maids’ outfits, or furry-tailed butt plugs that you see in sex shops? Some adults will only dabble in dress-up play, and then there are those for whom these items are fetishes that ignite intense excitement.

  • Shoes are a common fetish, particularly amongst heterosexual men. If you get turned on by the feeling of wearing, touching, or seeing a sexy pair of heels or other shoes, then you may just have a shoe fetish.
  • Latex is not for everyone, but it is certainly well-loved by the BDSM community. Some simply can’t resist the restraining feel and glossy look of it.
  • Furries are a well-publicized community who enjoy wearing furry animal suits, which they use to channel their animal alter-egos. Contrary to popular belief, only a small number of furries actually have a furry fetish. Would you be turned on by the sight of someone wearing kitten ears or sporting a furry tail from their rear end? If yes, then you may have a furry fetish.

Power Play: Domination and Submission

Power play, with or without help from hardcore sex toys, is a common fetish that many couples enjoy. From furry handcuffs to light choking, there are many ways to engage in safe fetish play with a partner. The keyword here, as for all fetishes, is consent.

  • Bondage using restraints like ropes, suspensions, furniture, gags, and more can be extremely erotic. You may be surprised as to how many married couples engage in bondage play.
  • Rape Play/Consensual nonconsent is a fetish that a person might be less inclined to own up to, but many couples enjoy simulating a rape scenario. When feeding this fetish, it’s critically important to discuss consent, limitations, and set a safe word before play.
  • Urolagnia, a fetish for all things urine, is not uncommon among those who like to play with domination. Perhaps you get turned on by watching someone urinate, or tasting it, or even ritualizing it. Urine play is also known as “watersports” or “golden showers”.

Own Your Fetish

Most fetishes are harmless, and I consider the de-stigmatization of fetishes to be an important part of sexual education (unless the fetish becomes a problem or involves, say, engaging in cannibalism). If two consenting adults want to engage in spanking, dressing in leather, or infantile role play, then why should they suffer shame? Embracing and exploring a fetish can even have the positive effect of bringing two people closer together because it involves sharing deep-seated desires. The need for intimacy is ageless. And studies show that you can enjoy sex for as long as you wish.

Is there a fetish you’ve been bottling up? Perhaps it’s time to open up to it.
