This week @SFL has been pretty hectic: from a major release for one of our partners and to Programmer day celebrations with #teamSFL and well to hosting a group of knowledge-thirsty teens at our office, teens with shining eyes and a firm determination to make a move to the IT world.

The group are participants of a cool initiative by @Globbing, aimed at raising young talent that would otherwise be unable to afford taking coding classes. They then reached out to us in order to show the students the roles and typical working conditions of programmers. So, there we were, gathered at our Yerevan office, going over all the issues and questions to paint the bigger picture for the guys to see.

SFLians Gagik, Lilit, Maga, Mher and John were there to share their experience and guide the students. The guys introduced themselves and their background, how long it takes to become a professional in this niche, what the candidates can expect in terms of career growth and development and what’s a good way to start. They then went on with the overview of the main tech stack: what specific technologies are implemented and what opportunities they give in terms of solving a variety of complex issues.

SFLinas went over projects to highlight why developers actually write code- to simplify life, give back to the community, automate routine stuff, save time and make people happier.

Gagik went on to speak about the inevitable failures that the students will face during their journey and the need to overcome them.

“There will be times when you don’t know answers to questions and you feel like you’re not good enough, but you should never get discouraged with work, otherwise you can hinder the awesome growth that you can face in the future in case you stick to your guns”.

Then the guys introduced themselves, their aspirations and plans with the future, what kind of professionals they aspired to become later in life and discussed a very important question- does education matter or is it a matter of stamina?

Lilit said “It’s important to know the direction you want to to head in when becoming a developer, the niche is very much versatile. It’s worth picking a direction and sticking to it so that you get in-depth knowledge of the niche”.

As we parted ways and went our own directions, we hope the students pick up the right path and do something that they enjoy, starting today!
