We’re hiring! Spend a year embedded in City government as a changemaker
The San Francisco Office of Civic Innovation (OCI) is seeking an Innovation Fellow to join us for a one-year fellowship embedded in City government. Apply here by Friday, February 7.
We are looking for a Fellow to support our mission empowering government to become more collaborative, inventive, and responsive to San Franciscans and their needs. The Fellow will work with changemakers and innovators in San Francisco government to introduce new approaches, resources, and technologies to City departments.

The kinds of skills we’re looking for:
- Partnership and project management: The Fellow will be responsible for managing the program development, implementation, and continuous improvement of our team’s cohort-based partnership programs, Civic Bridge and Startup in Residence. The Fellow will collaborate with OCI’s Director and will manage multiple projects and partnerships, sometimes with sole responsibility. Fellow will manage relationships with external and internal stakeholders, including private sector executives and City department leaders. The Fellow will also manage project sourcing, internal review, and project management of our team’s partnership programs.
- New initiative development: The Fellow will collaborate with OCI partners to identify new opportunities to support City departmental needs and, as needed, develop new interventions to address those needs.
- Design research & implementation: The OCI team uses a human-centered approach to design when addressing civic challenges. Skills desired in the Fellow include developing insights, brainstorming and designing solutions, and ultimately testing assumptions iteratively. The Fellow will need to clearly communicate research findings with a strategic voice to deliver prioritized recommendations and potential design solutions to City staff, policymakers, and project sponsors.
The program is designed primarily for mid-career professionals with a minimum of 1–2 years of experience in innovation fields. Applicants from all majors and academic disciplines will be considered and are encouraged to apply.
We are seeking a Fellow with the following characteristics: (i) academic achievement, (ii) written and oral communication skills, (iii) leadership potential and ability, (iv) dedication to public service; (v) an entrepreneurial spirit appropriate for participating in this unique program; and (vi) humility to learn and work with others. Preference is given to applicants who can demonstrate a strong connection and commitment to innovation in the public sector as well as to the City and County of San Francisco.
