Tom Wilkinson, an exceptional thespian and actor of film and television, has died aged 75.

Thomas “Tom” Wilkinson, on Saturday, 30 Dec. 2023, died suddenly at his Leeds residence. He was 75-years-old. The cause of death, thus far, has not yet been reported.

Recognised for his work, having received multiple award nominations, Wilkinson is known to have won a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Primetime Emmy Award. This is of course in addition to the two Academy Award nominations and the Laurence Olivier nomination he picked up. The now late Queen Elizabeth II, in 2005, appointed Wilkinson an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).

There is much that can be said, whether it be for the camera of film and television or treading the boards for a live theatrical performance, for Wilkinson’s work.

Wilkinson, despite apparently only appearing in two stage plays, brought a sense of wonder to his work as a thespian. His stage work, every bit as important to him as the work he turned in for film and television, set him apart from the madding crowd.
