Raising one’s hand to ask a question has to be most extraordinary thing about being a human. [Photo by Edwin Andrade on Unsplash]

Personalities are cultivated over a certain period of time. You do something so repetitively that it becomes a natural part of your identity. For good or for worse, what we call ‘character’ today is more illusionary — what you see is what you get — than substantial. This is how an image is created. XYZ doesn’t do this. PQR does that. HIJ walks like this. MNO talks like that. Traits and virtues, so on and so forth. Let’s call this pattern the limits of vision. Even if we want to dig deeper, it’s bound to be difficult, unless you’re part of the family or planning to settle down with the said person or are in dire need of a friend. To invest oneself in knowing others on an intimate level defeats the whole purpose of a personality. The reason why we seek existential warmth from our idols is because we are safeguarded by the distance that separates us from them. From their halo drips the sweet honey of perception and it serves both the parties perfectly well.

Armed with this clarity of thought, I embarked on my first ever AMA on Instagram. To be honest, I expected a few questions, which I’d be able to address within an hour. Turns out I was mistaken. Hundreds of queries poured in and it quickly became hectic, to be very polite about the situation. By the end of it, after putting in over 3 hours, I answered quite a lot of questions. Here’s sharing some that might interest you.
