What shines bright doesn’t need an excuse to continue doing what it does best, mainly because it doesn’t know what darkness really is.

In a lifetime, we come across many individuals who make us remember them; some through their good deeds and others with their not-so-good deeds. Life is short but the journey is long enough to leave a footprint in each other’s memories. But very rarely do we stumble upon people who make us want to be memorable ourselves. They are the original stars. They radiate what most can’t.

Regardless of what we are going through, we all have at least one such person in our life.

Let’s call them Bright Star in honour of John Keats’ marvelous poem.

Bright star, would I were steadfast as thou art —
Not in lone splendour hung aloft the night
And watching, with eternal lids apart,
Like Nature’s patient, sleepless Eremite,
The moving waters at their priestlike task
Of pure ablution round earth’s human shores,
Or gazing on the new soft-fallen mask
Of snow upon the mountains and the moors —
No — yet still stedfast, still unchangeable,
Pillow’d upon my fair love’s ripening breast,
To feel for ever its soft swell and fall,
Awake for ever in a sweet unrest,
Still, still to hear her tender-taken breath,
And so live ever — or else swoon to death.

If we do manage to find such souls, the dangers often lie in losing track of their position. Since they are not part of a constellation, they shine alone and are prone to wander away. And in worst case scenarios, you drift away basking in your contentment. All things speculated, the distance shouldn’t grow more than it has to. May we gather the strength to hold on to their light as long as we can.

Amen.
