A tragedy occurred earlier this morning in Jiangxi province when an overloaded bus swerved off the road, killing 10 people.

The bus veered off the road and landed upside down in a 10-meter deep ditch near the city of Ganzhou. While the vehicle was only supposed to be carrying 19 passengers, 32 were on board at the time.

Nine people died at the scene and one more passed away after being rescued from the crash site.

The reason for the crash is not currently known, however, the added weight of the additional passengers may have been a factor in the bus not being able to make a turn, brake in time, and tip over.

With the Spring Festival holiday quickly coming to a close, tens of millions of people across China are now rushing back to their places of work. Public security officials remind travelers to exercise particular caution on the road at this time, and not get into an overloaded bus.
