BEHOLD: Colossal cabbage statue pops up in Hebei province
At 20 meters tall, this is even larger than China’s last giant statue of a cabbage
Back in 2016, the Shandong city of Liaocheng put itself on the map with a gigantic cabbage statue measuring 9 meters tall. Unfortunately for the proud residents of Liaocheng, their claim to fame has now been surpassed by an even more colossal cabbage.
A 20-meter-tall, 12-ton statue of a cabbage has recently been erected in the Hebei city of Handan. The imposing vegetable rises up from the pavement outside of a busy shopping center and apparently has already drawn a number of photo-takers and sightseers
Meanwhile, here’s a photo of the Liaocheng Cabbage, which will now presumably be cast to the back pages of history:
It’s not yet clear if this newest statue will spark a Cabbage War between the cities of Liaocheng and Handan, but we at Shanghaiist are fully in favor of lower-tier Chinese cities competing to see who can build the largest statues of local specialties.
Someday, we hope to see an even bigger crayfish:
An even larger crab:
And a less terrible looking turtle:
