Public enemy number one on the Chinese internet at the moment is a man who was filmed putting a bullet in a black bear’s brain.

In the gruesome footage which has been widely circulated on Chinese social media, the man warns the bear not open its mouth at him before a friend films him shooting the animal with a rifle through the bars of its cage, right in the skull.

At this point, it’s not clear where or when the footage was filmed, who the men are or where they are from.

So far, one of the versions of the video has racked up more than 17 million views on Weibo, while a Weibo post featuring the footage has been shared over 60,000 times and has nearly 20,000 comments.

Chinese netizens have called on the footage to be widely shared so that the men can be tracked down and punished. So far, China’s trusty “human flesh search engine” has failed to identify or locate the men, though net users say that they are likely from northern Anhui province, judging by their accent.

However, the fact that they are equipped with what looks like an AK-47 has made some argue that the video was filmed outside of China, which has strict gun laws — though laws which are often broken.
