A Chinese man has been arrested in Japan for allegedly pushing an older Japanese man into a moving train after the fellow commuter accused of him being “too noisy.”

The incident occurred just after midnight on Sunday at Tokyo’s Kichijōji Station. According to Japanese media reports cited by Chinese media outlets, the 38-year-old Chinese man was traveling on a metro train while talking with a friend when a 65-year-old Japanese man seated next to them expressed his annoyance at their manner of speaking.

“Your voices are too noisy,” the man told them, asking them to quiet down.

That comment led to an argument between the two men which escalated into a physical confrontation when they both got off the train together at Kichijōji Station.

According to Japanese media reports, at one point, the Chinese man grabbed his opponent by this clothes and shoved him toward a moving train that was leaving the station.

The Japanese uncle suffered a serious head injury from the collision that knocked him out cold. Meanwhile, the Chinese man also fell over and sustained light injuries to his head and feet. Both men were taken to the hospital. The Japanese man remains unconscious and in critical condition.

The Chinese man, who was identified as a chef living in Kasukabe city, Saitama prefecture, was arrested by police, who found that he smelled of alcohol.

According to the Tokyo Reporter, the suspect admitted that he had been drinking prior to the altercation, but denied shoving his alleged victim into a moving train.

“It doesn’t mean that I pushed him,” he said. “I don’t recall clearly.”

On Weibo, Chinese netizens have slammed their compatriot for being extremely “rude” and “uncivilized,” criticizing him for once again causing China to “lose face” abroad.
