Galeries Lafayette Shanghai set for October opening
Luxury French retailer to open in new Lujiazui shopping district.
High-end French department store Galeries Lafayette will open its first Shanghai location in October this year as part of a new shopping district in Pudong.
The Parisien tourist landmark, which initially announced its opening in August 2017, is set to move into the new Lujiazui Center later this year.
According to Chinese news website The Paper, Lujiazui Center is one of four buildings that will form a new commercial district within a kilometer of Shanghai Tower. The area will be served by Dongchang Road station on line 2 and Shangcheng Road stop on line 9.
There’s still no word on what brands Galeries Lafayette will stock, but their Beijing location mainly carries upmarket niche brands rather than top luxury goods.
Shanghai will be Galeries Lafayette’s second mainland location after opening in the capital in 2013, and more than 20 years after first pulling out of China in 1997. The original store in Paris was founded in 1895.
