Saint Patrick was a fifth-century missionary who brought Christianity to Ireland. He died on March 17 in the year 461, and since then, the date has been recognized as a time of religious celebration. Today, it’s an ode to another form of prostration, when people appropriate all forms of Irish symbols, drink too much, and end their night in front of a toilet. If that’s your idea of a spiritual experience, then here are nine bars to booze at on St. Patrick’s Day this Saturday.

Zapata’s

Zapata’s is throwing two parties for St Patrick’s Day on March 16 and 17. First up is their countdown party on Friday, March 16. Pints of Guinness are ¥50 each and Jameson whiskey go for ¥35 per shot, and there’s free green frozen margaritas for ladies dressed in green from 9pm to 11pm. Then it’s onto their St. Patty’s party on Saturday, March 17. The deal is the same as Friday, with an added chance to winning ¥1,000 in cash for best costume.

Sasha’s

Sasha’s is steeping traditions back into St. Patrick’s Day by focusing on fun and Irish folk music on Saturday, March 17. Starting from 5pm, there’re deals on Jameson shots, pours of Bailey’s, and pints of Guinness while Irish folk band Boxty Rebellion keeps you entertained. Then on Sunday, March 18, it’s their St. Patrick’s Beer Day from 3pm to 6pm. All brews during that time are ¥35 each, and Irish folk band Boxty Rebellion will be on hand again to provide the tunes.

The Rooster

Sports bar The Rooster is kicking St. Patrick’s Day off early on Saturday, March 17 with their brunch. Happening from 11am to 3pm for ¥300 (it’s also on Sunday), you get free-flow Guinness and one brunch dish. If you’re just there for drinks, there are offers on the stout, Jameson cocktails and shots, and Irish Slammer shots (Jameson and Bailey’s in a pint of Guinness). At night, they’re showing the rugby match between England and Ireland live at 10.45pm.

455 North Shaanxi Road / 陕西北路455号

The Blind Pig

The Blind Pig is switching the bourbon for beer this St. Patty’s week, with a deal that gets you a gift for every two pints of Guinness ordered. Pair that with their Irish stew for ¥88.

123 Nanyang Road / 南阳路123号

Windows

Shanghai bar institution Windows is probably the cheapest place you can get smashed on March 17. Jameson and Bailey’s shots are ¥20, green beer and Guinness pints are ¥25 and ¥35 respectively, and shots of Irish Car Bomb shots (Jameson and Bailey’s in Guinness) are ¥45 each. And it’s buy-one-get-one-free on all of them. That happens until 8pm at both their outlets, so go early and work on your day drinking skills.

Abbey Road

Beatles-theme bar Abbey Road is harking back to the Fab Four’s Irish roots with their St. Patrick’s party. They’re serving green Tiger drafts for ¥35, while ¥50 gets you either a pint of Guinness, The Irish Mule cocktail, Irish Eyes cocktail, or two shots of Irish Frog. Have it with their Ruben sandwich or shepherd’s pie for ¥90 each. There’s also live music and the 6 Nations rugby tournament on TV.

3 Taojiang Road / 桃江路3号

Logan’s Punch

Logan’s Punch is inviting everyone in on St. Patrick’s Day — well, they already do that on normal days, but luck of the Irish and all that, so lucky you? They have an offer of six Jameson shots for ¥150, and if you wear green, you get a shot for free.

99 Taixing Road / 泰兴路99号

Jameson Day Fest

Jameson Day Fest is technically not a bar, but there’s more booze flowing here than Dongbei wedding banquet. Organized by the people behind the brand, there’s copious amounts of the Irish whiskey in shots and cocktails, and you’ll find food and music. You can even get a shave.

751 South Huangpi Road / 黄陂南路751号

Lucca

Green is a shade that’s normally not associated with heat, but gay bar Lucca is reddening the color with their St. Patty’s Day celebration (just look at that poster’s…bulge). Free entry before 9pm or it’s ¥80 each with one drink after that. Irish citizens get in for free as long as you flash your, er, passport.
