Last Thursday, a pair of workers were installing drainpipe at a construction site in Sichuan’s Nanchong city when the earth suddenly collapsed in around them, burying them in dirt.

Fortunately, at just about that same time, a squadron of 50 members of China’s armed police were jogging by on a training exercise. A panicked worker ran up to them and asked for their help.

The squadron then rushed over and began attempting to rescue the two lost workers. The group’s commander decided that the use of heavy equipment would likely only make the situation worse, so he ordered his men to dig the workers out using shovels and with their bare hands.

After an hour of digging, the officers were able to rescue the two trapped workers, earning the praise of China’s internet with one of the men proclaiming that helping people was exactly why he became an armed cop in the first place.
