On Saturday night, a 6-month-old baby girl was found sleeping in a stroller in a park in Dongguan, abandoned along with a bag and backpack full of milk powder, medicine, diapers, clothing, and a 1,000-character letter from her parents which was headed: “Please kindly report this to the police.”

The note describes how the child’s parents had gone broke treating their baby daughter’s epilepsy and were no longer able to bear the financial burden of caring for her. It also included instructions about what kind of medicine the infant needs and some other tips about taking care of her, according to a report from the Guangzhou Daily.

“There isn’t a single parent who does not love their own child, but we truly are not able to afford the high medical costs,” the note reads. “I know that my actions are very selfish… I do not expect to receive anyone’s understanding, I only hope that the child grows up safely.”

“At 8 am in the morning, the child needs her medicine,” the letter advises further along. “If you can, please talk to her more, touch her hands and her feet.”

Finally, the note ends by thanking whoever steps forward to take care of the infant, declaring that: “In the next life, we will work hard to atone for what we have done.”

The infant was found asleep by a police officer on patrol and has been taken to a hospital for care and treatment. Meanwhile, police are looking for the child parents, however, they say that the baby had been abandoned at night in a blind spot for the park’s surveillance cameras.
