Speak Low voted best bar in mainland China for the third time
Two other Shanghai bars also make Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2018 list
Cocktail bar Speak Low cemented its spot as mainland China’s best bar for the third time in a row, with two other Shanghai bars joining it on this year’s Asia’s 50 Best Bars list.
At a ceremony in Singapore on May 3, the Fuxing Road speakeasy came in at number three this year, down from second place in 2017. It was also number two in 2016.
Other Shanghai bars that were ranked this year include Sober Company, which climbed to number 14 this year, up from its 19th spot in 2017. Both Speak Low and Sober Company are run by Japanese bartender Shingo Gokan.
Union Trading Company, run by American bartender Yao Lu, also made the list at 28 this year after placing at nine in 2017.
China had 12 bars on the list in total, tying it with Singapore as the countries with the most number of bars in the awards. The number one bar this year was Manhattan in Singapore. It also placed first in 2017.
The Asia’s 50 Best Bars list has been published annually since 2016 by William Reed Business Media, which also puts out Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants awards, The World’s 50 Best Bars, and The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.
