With temperatures dropping below freezing in northern China, many have gone out for leisurely walks on frozen lakes. Unfortunately, on Sunday, a mother and her two children in Tangshan, Hebei Province discovered that the water they were walking on wasn’t completely frozen over.

Video that has been widely shared on Chinese social media shows more than a dozen people banding together by linking their hands to form a 20-meter-long human chain to rescue the mom and her kids from the icy water.

The three were successfully pulled out of the lake by the Good Samaritans before any harm could come to them.

Last month, footage of another daring rescue in Hebei Province went viral, showing a man rushing out onto a frozen river and breaking the ice with his bare hands to save an elderly woman who had fallen in the frigid waters.
