If Stephen Colbert ever does come to China, he might have trouble with procuring a high-speed train or airplane ticket.

On Monday’s “Late Show,” Colbert, gave his own spin on China’s “Orwellian” social credit system. The system, which is currently being experimented with around the country ahead of plans to roll it out nationwide in 2020, is quite complex and somewhat misunderstood, but, in general, it involves giving citizens a base score from which points can be deducted for negative acts (smoking on trains, jaywalking) and added for benevolent ones (donating blood, volunteer work).

That score will then play a big part in the citizen’s life, determining whether he can do things like buy plane tickets or train tickets, secure a loan, stay in a highly-rated hotel, and even what school his kids can go to.
