On Saturday, a tour bus broke down on the side of the road in southern Yunnan province, only to be attacked by a wild elephant.

The incident took place just outside of the Wild Elephant Valley in Xishuangbanna. The bus was empty except for the driver and park officers had urged the driver to abandon his bus. However, the driver refused.

A video clip shows the angry elephant approaching the bus and headbutting the windshield, causing it to crack. Later, the animal gets distracted by an empty pickup truck parked nearby and tries to turn it over.

A park officer said that the elephant was especially “active” at the moment. Those living in southern Yunnan province occasionally come into contact with wild elephants. Back in 2013, a herd paid villagers a visit over the Spring Festival holiday, and had to be scared away with fireworks.
