In the latest incident in a recent string of “wedding pranks” gone wrong, a woman was knocked unconscious at a wedding in Xi’an on Saturday.

The woman surnamed Niu was reportedly helping to protect the bride from a group of male “pranksters.” According to Niu’s sister who witnessed the incident, one of these “vicious” men grabbed Niu by the neck and sent her to the floor.

However, before she landed on the ground, Niu’s head slammed into a door, knocking her out cold.

When she came to, Niu said that half of her body felt numb and she couldn’t remember how exactly she came to be on the floor. She was taken to the hospital where doctors fortunately found no lasting injuries from the fall.

Niu becomes just the latest victim of China’s controversial tradition of “wedding pranks” — in which newlyweds are forced to engage in sexual games or humiliated in some fashion on their wedding day .

Recently, the practice has come under increased scrutiny. Particularly after a video went ultra-viral last week, which was rumored to show the drunken father of the groom forcing his son’s bride to kiss him on stage. The family has since claimed that the father was merely pretending to smooch the young woman, acting in accordance with the local tradition of “teasing the bride.”

A short time later, another video hit the Chinese internet showing a man grabbing a bride by the head and forcing her to kowtow. When the woman responded by slapping the man, the audience scolded her, declaring that it was only a bit of fun.

Finally, three men were ordered by a Guizhou court last week to pay 90,000 yuan in compensation to their former friend for accidentally breaking his face on his wedding day in a “prank” that went horribly awry.
