Jay Chou’s ultra-smooth voice is known for being able to move and arouse listeners, apparently even those who are in comas.

Last November, a 24-year-old woman lost consciousness following a brain dysfunction that saw not enough blood or oxygen reaching her brain. Afterward, she was placed in an intensive care unit in a hospital in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province.

In January, an ICU nurse named Peng Keling began taking care of the woman. Hoping to help her out of her slumber, Peng began talking to his patient and each day he would read her the latest entertainment and celebrity news, according to the Wuhan Evening News.

When he wasn’t talking to her, he would play her Jay Chou’s music over his smartphone. Peng had been a big fan of the Taiwanese singer ever since he was kid. He hoped that the woman would like his songs as well.

Finally, on March 21st, he got a response. Peng noticed that the woman was faintly swaying her legs along to the rhythm of Chou’s jazzy tune “Rosemary.” Immediately, he began asking her to perform simple tasks, like raising her hand and pointing.

After she was able to follow his instructions, Peng excitedly rushed off to get his colleagues. When he returned with his coworkers, he began singing “Rosemary” himself and asked the woman what she thought of his singing.

“Not too bad,” she whispered back.

By March 28th, the woman was transferred out of the ICU. Peng kept a diary of what had happened and late last week news of his successful “Jay Chou treatment” went viral on Chinese social media.

In case you ever find yourself in coma, here’s the miracle-working song from Chou’s 2006 album “Still Fantasy.”
