As the weather gets warmer, we start to put our winter clothes away and let the fresh air in our home. Throughout the winter, dust and clutter tends to build up in the space. Don’t forget to clean these areas along with your normal household chores to pep your home up for spring — the best part is — most of the items needed are things you likely already have around the house!

Wipe the dust off of the cabinets

Your cabinets can build up a bit of dust over time, but a quick wipe down can remove debris and will have them looking brand new.

Wipe down the windows inside and outside (along with the window wells)

A quick spray of glass cleaner and wipe down using newspapers or coffee filters is all you need. Don’t forget to wipe down any dust and dirt that has accumulated within the window well.

Clean out the refrigerator and wipe down shelving

A water-vinegar mixture will clean and disinfect without leaving any chemical residue or smell on your food.

Dust your rugs

Get out any dust that accumulated over the winter by airing them outside and giving them a quick pat.

Run solution through your dishwasher

You can use a store-bought solution or a mug of vinegar facing up on the top rack and run a cycle to remove any odors and bacteria from your dishwasher.

Clean the washing machine and dryer

Run an empty load mixed with vinegar and baking soda to disinfect and remove odors. Clean out lint and dust within your dryer, and make sure exhaust vents are clean.

Go through your closet for things you no longer wear

Reduce clutter by getting rid of clothes you no longer wear. Try implementing the clothes hanger trick.

Wash walls and baseboards

Remove stains and residue from walls with a wet washcloth, and wipe of those baseboards to leave your house looking fresh.

Clean the microwave

Mix 2 cups water with 2 tablespoons vinegar in a jar and heat on High for 5 minutes. Keep the microwave closed for another 3 minutes, and all the residue will be able to be wiped away with ease.

Use old socks to dust and clean vents

Instead of trashing those holy socks, they make great rags when dusting furniture and other areas of the house.

Clean your disposal with lemon and ice

Running some ice along with small chunks of lemon will help clean and remove odor coming from the disposal.

Freshen up the bed with baking soda

Sprinkle baking soda on your mattress, gently rub it in, and let it sit for an hour before vacuuming it up.
