6 May (Morning) | Adapting Villages Workshop 2019 :International Workshop on the Future of Rural Villages

Rural villages are changing at an unprecedented rate. oday, the notion of “rural condition” is rife with preconceived ideas that have little in common with everyday country life.

Adapting Villages Workshop 2019, organised by the Institute of Environment, Energy and Sustainability, CUHK; and School of Architecture, CUHK, is going to explore “actual” rural conditions with real-world examples of villages, understanding how and why they transform, as well as how they adapt and calibrate.

Dr. Tat Lam, CEO of Shanzhai City, will attend the first day of the workshop on 6 May 2019. Lam and other 11 international academics and professionals will present positions based on first-hand experience. Each presentation will fall into one of these three categories: Heritage/Modernization, Economics/Sustainability, and Community/Society.

6 May (Evening) | Kindness Sustain: Novel Use of Blockchain for Social Good

Blockchain technology, a widely-bandied term in banking and financial services, is being brought to a novel application domain in philanthropy and social innovation. In particular, with abilities to address information authenticity and provide greater transparency, blockchain can be utilized for trustworthy fundraising, accountable charity giving, and enhanced donor retention. Will Blockchain create a positive social impact by revolutionizing charity sphere? What are the challenges that may come along?

Dr. Lam is going to share Shanzhai City’s blockchain projects serving communities in Guizhou Province China, Laos, Myanmar and Papua New Guinea, demonstrating how blockchain and AI can be used to build financial and data literacy of local community members. Other speakers include Mark Blick, Head of Government at Diginex; Nelson Yip, founding CEO and Director of EP Venture Limited; David Zhao, Blockchain Product Director at Ping An One Connect Group. Thomas Tang, CEO of PJ Sustainablilty Consulting Ltd. will be the moderator.

10 & 11 May | CUHK Entrepreneur Day 2019

CUHK Entrepreneur Day 2019 is a large scale entrepreneurship-themed event initiated by the CUHK Alumni Torch Fund. The event, which will be held on 10 May and 11 May on CUHK campus, features a series of talks, seminars and discussions with alumni entrepreneurs. Dr. Lam is privileged to chair one of the sharing seminars on 10 May 2019.

Entering its fifth year, the event will spotlight more than 80 exhibitors from various fields, including programming, wearable devices, e-commerce, big data, health care, social enterprise, education, art, social media, and sales and digital entertainment.
