A Tasty Place to Start

In May 2010, Bitcoin made one of the most significant marks in its (short) history. Let’s look at what Bitcoin Pizza Day is, why it’s important, and the continued impact this day has on the crypto ecosystem.

Florida-based Programmer Laszlo Hanyecz conducted the first known transaction for goods using Bitcoin. His purchase? Two Papa John’s pizzas for 10,000 BTC.

And as Bitcoin’s value soared in the year’s following, Laszlo became a legend in the crypto space. He’s been documented alongside other cryptocurrency pioneers such as Satoshi Nakamoto and Hal Finney.

Today, thousands of companies now offer goods and services for the world’s most popular digital currency — and we’d love to celebrate with you today — check out our KeepKey giveaway below.

Slice, Slice Baby

Laszlo was hungry. So he logged onto the Bitcointalk forum to see if anyone could help.

If you find this hard to believe — take a look for yourself.

No Matter How You Slice it…

Beyond being a cool origin story, Bitcoin Pizza Day is an important part of our history, serving as a link to the early days of crypto.

Furthermore, Laszlo is widely-recognized for being the first crypto pioneer willing to experiment with new technology and prove that cryptocurrency can be applied in real life with open-source technology.

Ready to Celebrate?

Bitcoin Pizza Day is a great excuse for all Bitcoiners to come together (with pizza, of course). The crypto ecosystem is often complex, abstract, and serious — which means celebrating on this day is a fun and welcomed change of pace.

1. Head to a Bitcoin Pizza Party like this one hosted by Blockchain Beach.

2. Treat Yo’Self to Bitcoin Pizza Merch from RedBubble.com.

3. Purchase a Domino’s Pizza via the Lightning Network.

While some people always gasp about today’s value of those two pizzas, we often forget that this date marks the most important change in the history of finance.

Was it worth it? Totally. Thank you, Laszlo.
