Work-Life Balance

When we talk about success and successful people, the names that instantly pop in our heads are Warren Buffet CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, Marissa Mayer CEO of Yahoo and Steve Jobs CEO of Apple. We all know that they are some of the leading business tycoons of the world. But what we fail to recognize behind these successful personalities are their struggles, years of sweat and hard work and their extremely busy schedules. They have to manage a huge operation with thousands of employees, hundreds of business transactions and concerns to cater every day. Most people think this is humanly impossible. But not for them, let’s see how these people manage to keep a work-life balance. Below are a few things anyone can do to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Keep a fine line between work and personal life:
Usually busy entrepreneurs are unable to do so because their work follows them everywhere, but they can implement a stopping point for work. Switch off the phone as soon as you enter your house. Relax and have a cup of tea, spend time with your kids and family and have dinner. Later on you can check emails to make sure there are no fires to put out then switch off your phone again and sleep at a reasonable hour. You’ll see how much relaxed you feel when you don’t have a device buzzing all evening for your attention!

Let go of fear:
Elizabeth Saunders, from Real Life says, “Many entrepreneurs struggle with fear that if they’re not working every minute their business will fail and they will regret not having put in enough time. However, in my own experience and in observing other successful entrepreneurs, letting go of fear not only leads to work-life balance but also more meaningful productivity and accomplishment.”

Organize yourself:
You need to understand that everything in your life whether work or home should be in sync. Make yourself a relaxing schedule at home with activities that can help your mind and body relax. At work, do tasks at their given time and don’t procrastinate by adding it to your to-be-done-at-home pile. Set priorities. Organize yourself and you’ll see how perfectly you manage your work-life balance.

Be present:
No matter what you’re doing, whether in a meeting or listening to music while relaxing, make sure you’re fully present. It is better to focus on one thing at a time to avoid any errors and mistakes, when your phone rings while you’re in the middle of delivering a report in the next fifteen minutes, don’t pick it up. Concentrate on one thing, unimportant calls and texts can wait.

You come first:
Your health and family come first. If you’re not feeling well, take the day off. Don’t skip meals. Its important to maintain nutrition for energy and focus. Go for a morning walk or workout and refresh your mind before coming to work. It’s you who needs you. So don’t compromise on your health.

Maintaining a perfect work-life balance might be an illusion to some, and more like a surreal concept. But if you try to organize yourself you’ll realize that you are doing good in setting priorities and you’ll understand that earning money is not the only goal in life; there are more important things in life that should also be followed.
