Free verse poetry
Mesmerised by combusting blue burning flames,
Blasting their escape through heated exhaust jets.
Waiting for the take-off as the heat builds up,
Brighter and brighter the flames burn, white-hot heat.
Our eyes becoming wider, anticipating take off,
Hearts are beating faster in our heaving chests.
Involuntary raised Hands as our eyes react they squint.
Just a fleeting thought excites us things may go wrong.
Then along comes mum and turns the flipping gas off!
