On Intermission

She always loved the energy of intermission,
and came to notice
how they all displayed the typical benchmarks —
five groups emerging:
the smokers,
the pee-ers,
the phoners,
the chatters
and the drinkers.
All cramming gusto into the time allotted between acts.

Then, the whole world stopped to crap sideways.

This pandemic reminded her of a world on intermission.
