Take Me to the Sea

A poem of relief

I’m here in the ocean,
Swallowing water in the open.

My lungs threaten to give.
With the fish, I will live.

They said I was too far gone.
Now, do I believe they were wrong?

The depth is so near and so pretty,
Easier to think here than in that city.

I do; I do.
Please give me a change of view.

Then you take me in
And teach me how to swim.

You’re strong and you’re here.
Safe, yet the shore isn’t near.

My feet don’t touch the floor,
But I’m not drowning anymore.
