Working in tandem for a more bicycle-friendly community

One of my favourite presentation titles from the 2019 Ontario Bike Summit was “Teamwork makes the dream work” by Bike Sudbury and the City of Greater Sudbury. Of course I loved it because it rhymed, but mostly it spoke to me because it put teamwork front and centre. Teamwork needs to be front and centre when it comes to cycling advocacy.
Building bicycle-friendly communities requires policy, funding and leadership from all levels of government. To achieve the cycling safety goals we are all working towards, it’s crucial to work in coordination with advocates at all levels of government as well. That’s why we’re proud to be launching the Tandem Membership with our friends at Cycle Hamilton for another year.
With the Tandem Membership, you can support the work of two great cycling organizations at once! For $60, you get a 1-year Cycle Hamilton membership ($35 value) and a ticket to ride the 8km route at our 14th Annual Greg’s Ride on Sunday, September 22 ($40 value). Share the Road and Cycle Hamilton have worked together to advocate for a $6.5 million cycling infrastructure budget in Hamilton in 2019 (including $4.5M in provincial funding), to help distribute 100s of free bike lights and to engage with decision makers on important issues, like women & cycling. Together we have been making progress towards a more bicycle-friendly Hamilton, but there is also a lot more work to do.
