I Made a Soap Inspired by a Coffee Drink
Espresso & orange juice, anyone?
I’ve been selling soap to a local bakery and coffee shop for almost a year now. The owner always has new ideas for drinks and pastries, but now she’s started suggesting soap ideas to me. I like most of them.
Some of them won’t really work — things like using fresh honeysuckle and rose flowers in soap. They’ll just turn brown and the smell won’t come through once the soap is made and cured.
One morning last year, she told me about a coffee drink that was becoming popular on TikTok — orange juice and espresso! She added it to her menu and I finally tried it. I’ll admit, it was a lot better than I thought it would be! The sweet orange juice balanced the bitter espresso and it didn’t cause the heartburn that I imagined.
I agreed to make the soap. I had a bright citrus fragrance and a hand-me-down coffee bean mold that I’d never used. Why not?
To start, I made some brown soap dough. Soap dough is soft and pliable like play dough. It’s just a small batch of soap that’s wrapped in plastic and not allowed to cure…
