My largest and most profound tattoo. Image supplied by artist Katia Somerville, used with permission.

Many may know that my partner Chris is a tattoo artist and has been for over 20 years now. When we first got together I was 36 and I didn’t have one tattoo. I had talked for many years about getting one, but could never decide what I wanted and where. When Chris came into my life, I knew that I was finally going to get that first tattoo. The whole process of that is actually pretty hilarious and is certainly a story in itself, which I will likely tell in time.

Most would probably think that my first tattoo would be my most profound one, but that isn’t the case.

I first met Katia in Powell River, the town where I last lived on the west coast of Canada. She was attending a women’s circle event that I was a part of, but I had known about her well before that. The friend that was hosting the circle had gotten a tattoo from her at her studio in Vancouver and after that, I quite often marveled at her amazing tattoos on Pinterest, Instagram, and beyond.
