Recently, COO and Co-Founder Rohan Le Page attended the Barcelona Smart Cities Expo World Congress, which we were invited to attend by the congress. The event is held annually in Barcelona, Spain at the Fira Barcelona Gran Via. Spread out over three days, this year being November 13th-15th, the expo brought together over 21,000 visitors, 844 exhibits and over 700 cities were represented from 146 countries. You can find the full list of participants here.

The event had over 400 speakers, which included 3 keynote speeches and 4 inspirational talks from gurus in their fields. The five key point of discussions that this year’s event was focused on and around were Digital Transformation, Urban Environment, Mobility, Governance and Finance and Inclusive and Sharing Cities. Each topic had specific thematic programs that were discussed in depth over the three day period.

The presentation from Boyd Cohen on The Role of Blockchain Decentralising Smart Cities stood out the most, as ShareRing is very aligned with what we think can happen in the future by using open blockchain to provide services to city masses.

The event was a great success with a huge turnout. Rohan had the time to meet with plenty of business providers and had the opportunity to meet new businesses that would work well together with ShareRing. There were many opportunities for companies to collaborate on city scale projects, raising global awareness of the idea of Smart Cities and how to implement it.
