Seek God

What is Seeking God?

Seeking in Hebrew is “Darash” which means to inquire, consult, search for, chase, attempt to find, trying to get something. We can find this word several times in the Bible. While this world is seeking wealth, money, materialistic possessions, fame, power, we as Christians what should we seek for?

“The Lord looks down from heaven at the human race, to see if there is anyone who is wise and seeks God.” Psalm 14:2.

This verse tells us that we should seek God, for God is looking for someone who has the desire to find him.

Seeking God implies that we should put our effort and take our time to look for God. In other words, chasing after his presence constantly, listening to his voice, consulting him in all our ways, developing the deep desire to know him and drawing closer to him as each day passes.

When do we seek God?

  • All the time

1 Chronicles 16:11 tells us that we should seek God always.

Psalm 105:4 states “Seek the LORD and the strength he gives. Seek his presence continually.”

We should keep on searching for God all the time and always seek his face.

  • While God may be found and is near

Isaiah 55:6: “Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call upon him now while he is near”.

We should look for God before it is too late. God is giving us time to repent, abandon our wicked ways and turn to him. Now is the time to set our priorities and put God first in our life. 2 Corinthians 6:2 tells us that now is the acceptable time and now is the day of salvation. We are given the opportunity now to seek God before it is too late. Let us not waste this time of grace.

How to seek God?

We are called to seek God with all our heart and soul (Deuteronomy 4:29 and Psalm 119:2).

1 Chronicles 22:19 “Now seek the Lord, your God with all your heart and soul”.

King David wrote in Psalm 63:1 “O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you”.

We need to search God with a sincere and intense conviction and in a determined way.

Proverbs 8:17 says “those who seek me diligently find me”.

We should be steady, energetic and persistent when seeking God.

What happens when we seek God?

  • God will reveal himself

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart”. Jeremiah 29:13.

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7

  • God will not forsake the one who seeks him

“Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you”. Psalm 9:10

  • God gives life

“This is what the Lord says to Israel: “Seek me and live.”” Amos 5:4

“Seek good, not evil that you may live.” Amos 5:14

“You who seek God, may your hearts live!” Psalm 69:32

  • God provides

“The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.” Psalm 34:10

“But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.” Luke 12:31

  • God Blesses

“Blessed are those who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart.” Psalm 199:2

  • God gives Joy

“ But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you” Psalm 40:16

I encourage you to seek God with all your heart and soul each day. God will reveal himself to us when we have the deep desire to search him.
