Cure for anxiety

Anxiety can be defined as “a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease about something with an uncertain outcome”.

The world is in a severe crisis at the moment and we can see that everybody is anxious about what is going to happen. Anxiety is obvious and everyone has a reason to worry. Maybe your future is uncertain, your dreams and what you were planning to do have been shattered, you do not know if you will be able to secure a job, you are worried about the exam that you need to take, you have no idea how to sustain your business and the list goes on.

In the midst of the storm, God wants to reassure us. God does not like when his children lead a life of anxiety. The Bible tells us that anxiety does not add anything meaningful to our life.

Matthew 6:27 states “Which of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?”

Hence, anxiety is useless and a waste of time without producing any results. The world does not have the solutions for anxiety, but God does.

The Cure for Anxiety:

1. Prayer

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6

When we feel worried, we can always go to God and pray. God has given us the gift of prayer. We can talk to God as a friend and tell him our issues and everything that make us worry. When we have made our requests known to God, we should also thank him for the answers he will provide. God is pleased when we have a grateful attitude and he has promised us that will he give us his peace. Even in the midst of our storm, we can receive God’s peace and stop worrying.

2. The Word of God

“Keep this book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” Joshua 1:8

The word of God is full of verses and promises for us to lean on and stop worrying. God has promised us that he will not leave us nor forsake us. The word of God is a powerful weapon to refute anxiety. We must do the effort to read, meditate and proclaim God’s promises over our life. Instead of worrying, we need to dig deeper into the word of God and receive God’s revelation for us. God’s word will help us to take wise decisions.

3. Seek first the Kingdom of God

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33

God shows us through this verse that when we search for God and his kingdom first, he will cater for our every need. Instead of worrying, we must learn to put God first in our life and work for his kingdom, thus he will take charge of us. Our heart, mind and soul should be focused on God first, then everything in our life will fall into place. God will direct our paths and provide for us.

4. Trust God

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding” Proverbs 3:5

There is no need to worry when we trust God and let him have his ways in our life. Anxiety comes when we try to solve our problems and look for solutions by ourselves. We worry because we do not have the answers. However, when we choose to rely on God and stop depending on our own knowledge, we allow God to do things for us.

5. Faith

“Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you”. Matthew 17:20

We cannot have faith and worry at the same time. When we have faith, we choose to stop worrying and believe that God is working behind the scenes and will reveal his plan. We believe that God can move mountains and what man may find impossible is possible with God. Even if everything around us is dark, we need to pray and have faith that God will open doors for us. When we have faith in God, anxiety must flee away.
