The best part about vecmāmiņas Kotletes (literally Grandma’s Meatballs) was that they seemed bigger in comparison to their Scandinavian cousins. These meatballs, laid on a bed of mashed potatoes, were succulent and delicious. The fact that the platter included Sauerkraut (fermented cabbage) and beetroot salad as sides ensured a perfect mix of flavors.

The Cepta laša fileja (Grilled Salmon Fillet) had been customized well beforehand. I had made a specific request to do away with potatoes altogether and also refrain from adding any of those high-calorie sauces to the mix. Instead, I was served a traditional Latvian salad along with grilled vegetables. It made for a flavorful mix.

The twin platters were perfectly paired with mājas vīni (house wine). There were two varieties on offer: mājas sarkanvīns (red wine) and mājas baltvīns (white wine). We opted to taste both. It turned out to be a great decision, enhancing the overall dining experience.
