It was love at first sight…and smells (honestly).

If there’s just one thing you have time for in Seattle, let this be it.

I stepped into Pike Place Market for the second time in my life, my first being very hazy as it was 20 years earlier. Love fish or loathe it, the enthusiasm of the vendors was right in front of me at the front entrance. You could not help but get swept up in the frenzy of the young fishermen/salesmen making a show for the tourists by yelling and throwing fish to each other.

Some vendors even stood there offering morsels of fish for us to taste. Who wouldn’t want a piece of that?

A young man offered us slivers of Dungeness Crab and, upon hearing that we were visiting from NYC, promptly informed us that they shipped any amount of fish anywhere in the US for a flat rate of $75.

The moment I saw the fish, I wished I had an apartment nearby, even just a small room with a basic cooking setup, where I could whip up delectable dishes every night while swigging pricey champagne. I chuckled to myself at this vision, but a girl can dream.
