One of our favorite snacks in Istanbul is the pide. Pronounced pee-day, this delightful snack will satisfy any hunger cravings. I mean it has bread and cheese to start with, what more could you ask for?

Officially a ‘Turkish flatbread’, but also referred to as ‘Turkish pizza’ these bread boats can contain a myriad of different flavors. The one above has spinach baked into it, but they can also have sausage and spiced meat mixed in with many other ingredients.

They are best when baked in a wood-fired oven, which you find a lot here in Istanbul.

Many times we will walk past windows and they will have them lined up and waiting for you. Who can resist stopping when something looks this good and seems to be calling to you?

These can range in size and in price. The small ones pictured above were about 12" long (38cm) and costs 25 Turkish Liras ($1.40USD). The one pictured in the lead photo was one that we shared and it was more like 18–20"…
