Poutine is a dish invented in central Quebec province in the 1950s. It is basically french-fried potatoes topped with cheese curds and gravy.

The exact origin of Poutine is up for debate. What is not debated is that it was invented in Quebec, Canada, probably in a restaurant called Le Lutin qui rit (the elf that laughs). A client named Eddy Lainesse asked the owner to mix the cheese curds with the fries…
