Sharing Food — May 2025 Wrap-up
It’s mushroom season in the Canadian Rockies!
My partner and I spent three weeks in May volunteering at a farm/RV park near Golden, British Columbia, Canada. Two years ago, the area had a severe forest fire, and the forest was burned beyond recognition. However, although from a distance, it seems as if there is no life out there, when we got within the burnt trees, we noticed plenty of signs of life returning.
One critical life form that thrives in a burnt forest is the morel mushroom. One evening, our host asked us if we wanted to go mushroom hunting. Of course, we couldn’t resist the chance to leave the property and head into nature. Plus, we were thrilled when we found a few growing almost straight away.
As I write this, I’m realizing that this adventure deserves a whole article of its own, but it also has me thinking. Mushrooms are such an interesting food source, and I know that many different mushrooms grow around the world.
