Happiness is a state of mind

What can we do to make our lives better? We may think of getting rich, finding true love, saving money, getting fit, or following our passion. We may pursue some from an endless list of goals. However, what if we simply want to be a happy person? That’s harder to find.

Although the achievement of a goal makes us happier, we mistakenly think this intense delight is a sign that our attempt at awakening joy is truly successful.

There is a strong tendency to confuse between success and happiness. We mix them up to the point where it’s hard to distinguish between them. These two are seemingly unified but very different terms. In reality, success can’t be the recipe for happiness, but rather, the other way around. In fact, the point of being successful is to make one happy. Success is an achievement, but happiness is the only achievement. Isn’t it?

So is being really happy possible? Well yes, it definitely is. We are all creators of our own emotions. Our choices, feelings, and behaviors come from nothing but our beliefs. We may not control the events or circumstances outside of us, but we can always choose a better story to tell ourselves and believe about it. To change to more positive interpretations and emotions we have to change our belief system.

But is it just that easy? Absolutely not. We can stay pissed at the lemon and deny its existence, or we can grab the lemon and squeeze the hell out of it. The choice is ours.
