Deadline to highlight your interest to the Clerk — 29th November

Being a Parish Councillor

Councillors are all ages (over the age of 18) and have a diverse range of life experiences. Some have lived within the parish for many years, and some have become residents in more recent years. The one thing they all have in common is that they are committed to ensuring that the parish is as pleasant a place to live as possible and that residents receive value for (public) money.

Co-option Process

Candidates will be invited to attend the December meeting and will be given an opportunity to make a brief presentation about why they wish to put themselves forward.

After that, nominations will be moved and seconded, and a vote taken. If there are more candidates than vacancies, a secret ballot is held, with all candidates present throughout. The successful candidate then signs a declaration of acceptance of office and also agrees to be bound by the Council’s Code of Conduct.

Parish Councillor Responsibilities

Once a councillor, you will be required to attend the monthly meetings, which are held on the first Wednesday of each month, commencing at 7.15 pm.

How do I put myself forward?

If you would like more information or wish to register as a candidate, please contact Carol Jones, the Clerk on 01270 812065 or via e-mail on carol.jones57@outlook.com. The deadline date for highlighting your interest to the Clerk is 29th November.

You will then be invited to attend the December meeting held on 6th December, 19:15 at Shavington Village Hall.
