Sir Philip explained that a climbing accident, at the age of 16, left him wheelchair bound. However, being a keen sportsman, he joined a wheelchair basketball team, which resulted in him taking part in the Paralympics and later becoming President. His dedication increased the support, funding and recognition for the sport, which now enables all athletes to achieve sporting excellence.

Sir Philip along with our president, Eleanor Anderson, ready to award the Mercia prize to the winner of the competition, which was “A Sporting Poem.”
