Dear residents,

This year Shavington Methodist Church and St Mark’s Church, with financial and personnel support from Shavington Parish Council, are hopeful to engage the whole community in marking the 100th anniversary of the Centenary of the conclusion of World War One on Armistice Day, 11th November.

If you have any documents, photographs or newspaper cuttings regarding Shavington during 1914–1918 or any information regarding any of the men listed on our village war memorial we would be glad to receive copies of these to help us in producing a display ready for the Centenary.

Please send copies (not originals) of any articles to Shavington Methodist Church, Main Road, Shavington, Cheshire, CW2 5DP marked ‘Centenary’ with your contact details inside, or scan and send them to shavingtonww1centenary@gmail.com before the end of July.

If the above is not such an easy thing to do for any reason, then why not come along to Shavington Methodist Church Hall on the Village Festival Saturday (July 7th) between 10am and 12noon or to the Shavington-cum-Gresty Parish Council stall on the Festival field between 12pm and 4.30pm. Come and chat to us about your memories, or bring us your photos and documents, that we might be able to use them in November to mark the Centenary.

Thank you for helping us to mark such a significant event in the community. We await your responses.
Revd Den Harding

on behalf of the Shavington-cum-Gresty WWI Centenary Planning Team which includes Revd Michael Leyden, Councillor Benjamin Gibbs and Councillor Martin Andrews.
