A Slice of Parisian Life on Île Saint-Louis
Finding the beauty of doing nothing in Paris
The cobblestones feel uneven under my feet. The morning sun filters through the trees, casting dappled shadows on the narrow street. Small shops and cafes line either side, their colourful awnings fluttering in the gentle breeze.
The aroma of freshly baked bread draws me towards Boulangerie Saint Louis №80 on Rue Saint-Louis en l’Île.
“Bonjour Madame” I call out as I cross the threshold. Inside, the air is warm and sweet. “Je voudrais un croissant aux amandes, s’il vous plait” — and the baker hands it to me with a smile.
Back outside, I break the cardinal Parisian rule — don’t eat and walk. But, I couldn’t resist the warm bag in my hand as wandered one of my favourite areas of Paris — Île Saint-Louis.
I love walking every inch of Île Saint-Louis. Starting from the western tip at Place Louis Aragon, I follow the Seine as it wraps around the island. The river is a constant companion, its waters gently lapping against the quays.
