From the moment I watched the explosive ash and lava crashing down onto the fictional town of Dante’s Peak I’ve been fascinated with volcanoes. Pierce Brosnan and none other than the gorgeous Linda Hamilton starred in the 1997 mega hit.

Most recently I watched Volcano: Rescue from Whakaari. This documentary however had me less fascinated and far more fearful. Several people lost their lives from the volcanic eruption in Whakaari, New Zealand.

The documentary shares details of the tragic loss of 22 people during the 2019 eruption.

However, the danger of volcanoes can often be masked by rich beauty and a false sense of security.

Mount Etna, Italy

Europe’s tallest active volcano, Mount Etna along with the town of Catania attracts tourists year round despite its danger which is highly monitored.

Known for its stunning white ice contrasting the black volcanic rock…
