The Future is Female.

Tonight we got to witness the most epic collaboration of two South Asian women to both talk about femininity and celebrate the release of their music video “Sun Spills”. Tonight we celebrated our periods, our bodies and our womanhood. This couldn’t have came out at a better time.

Some amazing SHEzaadi shit went down tonight. Two of the baddest brown girls came together for the most epic collab. I had too many feelings as soon as I saw the poster for this event. Kiran Ghandi, feminist queen of queens, marathoner, activist, drummer, artist EVERYTHING and Rupi Kaur the poetess divine whose book Milk and Honey has gotten me through every emotional roller coaster. These two amazing women came together to launch their music video all about — you guessed it, PERIODS. Kiran does some vocals while Rupi beautifully described her period and its relation to the moon and how human and natural both phenomena are. I love that Kiran’s echo in the back is a soft but powerful hymn about our bodies and how they are ours: “and no I am not afraid”. It was like a blast of cold NYC winter air hearing lyrics like that. You don’t expect it, but you feel alive. How refreshing to hear lyrics about things that actually matter like my body, and not pu$$Y, money, weed. Both women are so down to earth, real, woke and true SHEzaadis.
