Data Story Telling with Tableau!

image from kaggle.com

Tableau is an interactive software that contains tables, charts, dashboards which help anyone see and understand their data. What is even more attractive about this tool is one’s ability to tell stories with it.

In this article, I used Tableau specifically to narrate my data’s story . It is a Covid-19 data collected as of July 20th , 2020. Here is the link to the story on my Tableau profile. Please check it to get the most out of this.

Now to story telling! Cole Nussbaumer, the Author of “Story Telling with Data” gave lessons on how to effectively communicate with data and here are some really important points from the book:

  • Understand the context.
  • Choose the appropriate visualization(very important!).
  • Eliminate clutter.
  • Focus attention where you want it.
  • Think like a designer.
  • Tell a story.

Please note that: The first thing to do with the data set is to clean it and Tableau provides an option for that even though you might feel more comfortable using excel or other tools.

Below is a representation of the cases across the globe. All continents have been affected and there are new cases in almost every continent daily.

To ensure adequacy and effectiveness, every continent tests its citizens in every country and Europe took the most tests out of all the continents as of the time of this data collection.

Unfortunately, it has also recorded the highest number of deaths with Australia having the least death records.

Australia did not only record the least cases of deaths but also had the lowest numbers of patients recovered from that part of the world probably because they tested a smaller number of people.

Every continent is battling with this pandemic as it continues to spread as fast as days go by. I hope we are able to defeat this eventually.

TIPS:

  • You can quickly and easily create interactive dashboards as seen above.
  • Tableau enhances user experience due to it’s ease of implementation.
  • It can handle million rows of data.

I hope you choose Tableau for your next visualizations, thanks for reading!
