Empower Women in Tech: Donate to SCA Laptop Scholarship Fund
Helen, a young girl from a family who could only afford to provide her food, shelter, and a little educational support. She has an interest in the way users interact with a website. She has done her research using her father’s smartphone and has already registered for some online courses to gain more insights and build her passion. Unfortunately, she could only access her dad’s phone anytime he comes back from work (mostly late at night) and could only practice the coding test on paper.
She Code Africa, a non—profit organization focused on empowering women in tech across Africa with a community of over 12,000 women in tech across Africa, making it the largest women in tech in this continent. As part of fulfilling her goals of empowering more women in tech launches a Laptop Scholarship Fund. This initiative aims to provide 5 laptops to 5 girls/women in tech every quarter of the year.
The first round (Q1, 2022) was launched, and we received a total number of — applications. After screening and review of the applications, a total number of 10 laptops was given to 10 ladies. This was possible through donations and sponsorship from people around the world. Meet some of the laptop winners; Onyemowo Ajuwon, Utenwo-Ojo Abraham, Nabeelah Junaid, Aisha Muibudeen, and Atinuke Oluwabamike. Feedback from these winners proves that this initiative is indeed impacting lives and empowering more women in tech.
Imagine Helen as one of the laptop beneficiaries. This tool will help her spend more time on her courses, practice more, get technical certifications, and apply for jobs. With this laptop, she will be bold enough to speak up, own her space, and shine in her chosen career. She will be dependent and as well earn well to cater to herself and her family.
The second cohort (Q2, 2022) application is out. We call on all women advocates, and well-wishers to support the She Code Africa laptop scholarship funds and help us at She Code Africa to empower more of Helen who is out there. We can’t do this without your support. It’s about that time again when we give out laptops to 5 SCA ladies who need laptops to advance their careers.
