SHE CODE AFRICA

Over the past years, there has been a lot of discussion around diversity and Women In Technology (WIT). There have been campaigns and events springing up around the world encouraging, inspiring and empowering women to go into tech, with women taking the cue and taking up careers and leadership roles in technology ( a feat that seemed impossible some years back).

With Technology already creating a firm stand here on African soil, and many African ladies taking a lead from the rest of the world by also getting involved, innovations are springing up from across the continent. However, with little means of identifying with the growing number of female 'techies' in Africa, and the extremely high standard (which keeps going up) that the world has placed based on the achievements of few unarguably popular WIT, many of the ladies go unnoticed or underappreciated by their immediate environment, thereby sometimes resulting in their withdrawal from technology (which is typically perceived as a male domain) or reduced efforts at what they do.

We saw the need to identify with and celebrate other female 'techies' from across Africa. That need ended up materialising as 'She Code Africa’.

SCA was created with the foremost goal of identifying and celebrating random female programmers and generally female 'techies' from all countries in Africa by putting up their stories (and projects) at the fore front of everything all for the rest of the world to see.

By telling their stories, we hope to inspire the younger girls and to empower fellow ladies to choose a career in tech, and in all to connect them with women who have successfully done just that with their tech careers and also show every female the endless possibilities there is to achieve in technology. Consequentially, this will change the perspective the rest of the world has on the African technology space by bringing to limelight countries/communities that seem to be lost on the radar but are actually active in churning out female technology lovers and practitioners.
SCA is starting out with these as its basic goals, There are tons of ideas for how value can be added to it, but as we learn more about how best we can serve,we’ll be rolling them out as we grow.”
